Why does my income go up but nothing is left over?

Because your body treats the level you have lived at as a range to defend, the same way it defends your temperature. When income moves above that range, something quietly spends the extra and brings you back. The money moved. The level didn't. This is called homeostasis, and it is the Continuity Lock.

What's happening in your body

Your body keeps everything the same. That's its job. It holds your temperature at 98.6 degrees and your blood sugar in a narrow band, and when either drifts, it brings them back without asking you. This is called homeostasis, and every one of your cells takes part in it.

What most people don't know is that homeostasis doesn't stop at temperature. Your cells also treat your current lifestyle, otherwise known as the comfort zone, as a range to defend. On a very literal level, they believe your survival depends on that zone staying the same. So when you move above the level you've lived at, your income, your hours, the size of your life, your cells read it the same way they'd read a fever: as a departure from the range, and something to correct.

Why it looks like lifestyle creep

Costs in a business are real, and so is a bigger house. The Continuity Lock is suspected when the costs consistently absorb all of the extra, year after year, so there's never anything left over. The extra was a departure from the level your cells defend, so something quietly spent it and brought you back.

The correction doesn't announce itself. It shows up as the quiet month after the best one. Exhaustion right after a win. Forgetting the follow-up call. Costs that rise to meet every increase. None of that is a decision. It's your body doing what it was built to do.

Why you haven't heard of this before

Most industries have quietly accepted the bad outcomes of success as the price of it. The flat income after growth gets called the cost of doing business, or what it takes at this level. Once something is filed as the price of success, nobody looks for a cause. And if nobody looks for a cause, nobody finds the mechanism.

What has to change

You cannot outmuscle 32 trillion cells. Forcing against the response is what produces the exhaustion and the flat months.

What works is stretching what your body treats as the comfort zone, a little at a time, so that the next level sits inside it instead of outside it. Once the zone has moved, staying there takes no effort. A higher number stops registering as new, and the extra has somewhere to go.

If you want to know which of the four locks is running for you, the diagnostic at diagnostic.ssprogram.business takes about ten minutes.
