Download Your Transactions

How to download a year of transactions

Every account that business money touched, one file each. About half an hour the first time, ten minutes the next. Then the sorting is the AI agent's job, not yours.

On this page

The three rules

  1. Use a computer, not the phone app. Almost every bank hides the download behind the website. The app shows you the transactions; the website lets you take them with you.
  2. Ask for CSV. It is sometimes labeled Excel, spreadsheet, or "comma separated." A CSV is the actual rows. A PDF is a picture of the rows, which still works but takes the AI agent longer and needs checking.
  3. Get the whole year in as few files as you can. Set the date range to 1 January through today (for an estimate) or through 31 December (for the real thing). If the site caps one download at 90 days or 12 months, download in pieces and keep every piece.

Include accounts where business and personal money mix; the AI agent sorts by what each purchase was for, not by which card paid. Why co-mingling can be an issue and how to stop it.

Name each file so you can tell them apart later: Chase checking 2026.csv, Amex 2026.csv, Venmo March 2026.csv. Put them all in one folder.

Chase

Chase has the download. It is just hard to find.

  1. Go to chase.com on a computer and sign in.
  2. On the Accounts page, click the account you want: checking, savings, or a card. One at a time.
  3. Above the list of transactions, on the right, there is a small icon of an arrow pointing down into a tray. Click it.
  4. A box opens called "Download account activity."
  5. Account: check the right one is selected.
  6. File type: choose "Spreadsheet (Excel, CSV)."
  7. Activity: choose "Custom date range" and set 1 January to today, or "Year to date."
  8. Click Download. The file lands in your Downloads folder with a name like Chase1234_Activity_20260101_20261027.CSV.

Repeat for every Chase account and every Chase card. Chase will usually give you up to about two years in one file, which is more than enough.

Bank statement as a CSV (other banks)

Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citi, US Bank, Capital One, credit unions and the rest all follow the same shape. The words change; the route does not.

  1. Sign in on the website.
  2. Open the account.
  3. Look near the top of the transaction list for one of these: Download, Export, Download transactions, Activity download, or an arrow-into-a-tray icon. If you cannot see it, try the Statements and Documents page; some banks keep the export there.
  4. Choose the file type: CSV, Excel, or spreadsheet. Never Quicken or QuickBooks unless you use those programs.
  5. Set the date range to the full year, or the widest the site allows.
  6. Download, and name the file.

If there is no CSV anywhere: download the monthly PDF statements instead. The steps are in the next section.

Bank statement as a PDF

Some banks and credit unions only give you the monthly statement as a PDF. That works. You need every month of the year, twelve files per account.

  1. Sign in on the website, on a computer.
  2. Find Statements. It is usually called Statements, Statements and Documents, or eStatements, and sits in the top menu or under the account's own menu.
  3. Pick the account.
  4. Set the year, then download each month one at a time. Most banks show a list of months with a Download or PDF link next to each.
  5. Name each file with the bank, account and month, like Credit union checking March 2026.pdf, and put them all in one folder.
  6. Check you have all twelve (or every month so far this year). A missing month is the most common mistake.

Then run them through The Scrubber. It reads the text of each PDF, removes the account numbers and your details, and gives you back a text file of the statement plus a CSV of the transaction rows, keeping the printed totals so the AI agent can check that no rows were missed.

Scanned statements do not work. If the PDF is a scan or a photo of paper, there is no text inside it to read. Ask the bank for the electronic statement, or use the print-to-PDF trick further down on the transaction page itself.

Credit cards

Treat every card like an account of its own, including cards you also use personally. The AI agent separates the personal charges; you do not have to.

American Express

  1. Sign in at americanexpress.com on a computer.
  2. Open the card and go to Statements and Activity.
  3. Look for the Download link or icon above the activity list.
  4. Choose the date range you want and CSV as the format, then download.

American Express says you can download recent activity and the past six billing statements this way, with CSV as one of the formats. If you need further back, download the older monthly statements as PDFs from the same page.

Capital One, Citi, Bank of America, Discover, and the rest

Same route as other banks: sign in on the website, open the card, find Download or Export above the transactions, choose CSV, set the date range. If the card only offers monthly PDF statements, download all of them.

Venmo

Venmo gives you one month per file, so a full year is twelve downloads. It takes about five minutes.

  1. Sign in at venmo.com on a computer.
  2. Click Statements in the sidebar.
  3. Use the dropdown to pick the month and year. To change the year, click the year shown at the top of the dropdown.
  4. Click Download CSV.
  5. Repeat for each month of the year.

Why this matters: your bank only shows "Venmo" as one lump when money moves in or out. The Venmo files show who paid you and who you paid.

PayPal

  1. Sign in at paypal.com on a computer and go to Activity (paypal.com/myaccount/activities).
  2. Click the Download icon.
  3. Click Custom.
  4. Choose the Activity report, set the date range to the year, and choose CSV as the format. One request can cover up to 12 months.
  5. Click Download. A small report downloads straight away. A large one can take up to five business days; PayPal emails you when it is ready, and you collect it from the same page.

PayPal also has monthly statements at paypal.com/reports/accountStatements (click Request next to the month, then Download when it is ready), but the Activity report is the one you want because it has every transaction on one sheet.

Cash App

  1. Go to cash.app on a computer and sign in.
  2. Open Activity or Statements.
  3. Choose the month or a custom date range.
  4. Choose Download or Export, and pick CSV.

The phone app shows your activity but does not export it. Use the website.

Wise

  1. Sign in at wise.com on a computer.
  2. Open the balance or currency account you used.
  3. Open Statements and reports (sometimes under the three-dot menu or "More").
  4. Choose Statement, set the date range to the year, choose CSV, and download.

If you hold more than one currency, download one statement per currency. Check this route against your own account; Wise moves its menus around.

Apple Pay and Google Pay

Nothing to download. Apple Pay and Google Pay are not accounts; every payment made through them shows up on the card or bank account behind it, which you have already downloaded. Downloading them separately would count everything twice.

Two exceptions:

Pages that only let you scroll

Some purchase histories have no download button at all: the App Store and iTunes purchase history, some subscription dashboards, some marketplaces. You do not need screenshots. Save the page as a PDF.

  1. Open the page on a computer.
  2. Scroll to the bottom. Keep scrolling until it stops loading more. For a year of purchases that can take a minute.
  3. Press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac).
  4. Where it says Printer or Destination, choose "Save as PDF."
  5. Save it with a name you will recognize, like App Store purchases 2026.pdf.

The whole loaded page becomes one file, however long it is. The AI agent reads it like a statement.

For Apple specifically, there is also an official export: at privacy.apple.com, sign in, choose "Request a copy of your data," tick "App Store, iTunes Store, and Apple Books purchase history," and Apple emails a file within a few days. The print-to-PDF route is faster.

Before you share the files

Statements carry your account numbers, your name and your address. None of that needs to leave your computer, and none of it goes on our site. The Scrubber is a small file you download and run on your own computer, with your internet off if you like. It removes the identifying numbers and your personal details, keeps the last four digits so you can still tell accounts apart, and gives you back scrubbed copies to attach.

Get The Scrubber

Then go back to the tax estimate page, attach the scrubbed files and the instructions to your own AI agent, and let it do the sorting. The spreadsheet it gives you back is what you drop into the calculator on that page.
